Andy is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Needle Space Labs. My name is Andy Jordan, and I’ve spent most of my career as a journalist. In addition to various science and technology reporting roles over the years, I was a producer and reporter for CNN for nearly ten years, working in Atlanta and in CNN’s San Francisco bureau. I became The Wall Street Journal’s first-ever video/multimedia reporter, based in New York and later San Francisco, hired to cover the technology industry and in particular report out *through video* the convergence of man and machine, and to understand how emerging technology was affecting human relationships, and society. I ended up covering a lot of other topics through video too, including the financial crisis from Europe, and numerous political conventions, elections and the democratization movement in technology. I also served a period of time embedded with WSJ’s corporate bureau to better understand tech companies’ board structures and org dynamics. I reported “one-man-band” style heading out with a camera, an assignment, and a laptop, and shot and edited my own videos. After five years of this, I decided to go work for Splunk, one of the most amazing companies in the industry. During my five-year tenure I built and scaled the media studio into a video content engine, and helped elevate Splunk’s narrative. I led a team of editors, videographers and animators that helped investors, prospects and customers fully understand the power of machine data. We helped create the early visual signature in a rocket-ship tech company, and was part of a once-in-a-career marketing team that helped the company scale from $200M in 2013 to $1.7B in 2018. Through my experience at Splunk, and later advising other tech companies, I came to found Needle Space Labs. I also was news director and host at over a dozen radio stations in South Korea, Georgia, and San Francisco. I also hosted a first-of-its-kind LGBT issues-driven radio talk show called "Shake", produced out of KQKE-AM, the early Air America flagship affiliate. I attended Emerson College, and graduated from The University of Georgia. I am also a fellow at the East West Center in Honolulu, and Science-Journalism Fellow at Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
